EE’s Switches On 5G Network For 50 Cities, More To Join Next Year

In December, EE introduced 5G to six more major UK cities – Hull, Newcastle, Leeds, Nottingham, Sunderland, and Sheffield. Northampton, Stevenage, and Wakefield also got their first 5G network sites.

EE's Switches On 5G Network

5G now covers more high footfall locations, including London Euston, Belfast’s Kingspan Stadium, and Cardiff Central station.

5G from EE is now live in 50 cities and large towns, which are more places than any other operator.

The rollout is set to continue, as EE passed its 2019 5G ambition and set its next target of more than 70 large towns and cities by March 2020 – just in time for the upcoming 5G device launches.

5G coverage by EE began back in May when EE launched 5G services in London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Manchester. Since then, 5G coverage expanded on a daily basis.

EE introduced the first 4G network to the UK back in October of 2012. EE has also received extensive independent recognition – including being named the UK’s best network every year consistently since 2015 at The Mobile News Awards, The Mobile Choice Awards, The Mobile Industry Awards, and by RootMetrics.

Other Services By EE

Besides offering mobile services to consumers and small- and medium-sized businesses, EE also provides business and home broadband using both 4G, 5G, and fixed-line connections.

As of today, EE’s retail presence exceeds more than 600 shops across the UK. By introducing 5G to these cities, EE has surpassed its target of enabling 5G to 16 cities in the UK in 2019.

Marc Allera, the CEO of BT’s consumer division, stated that their launch of the UK’s first 5G network in May is another milestone towards keeping their customers connected 100% of the time.

He also said that BT is leading the way in the UK, with 4G and 5G coverage in more locations than any other operator. Adding 5G to more cities is helping BT deliver the best mobile internet experience to its customers.

EE’s 5G network has achieved the highest average download speed and highest 5G availability, as reported by the latest independent RootMetrics 5G testing in cities like London, Birmingham, and Cardiff.
