Will the Samsung Galaxy S10e Go Down As Just One-Off Experiment?

Samsung is the manufacturer of the world’s most sold and preferred smartphones and other quality devices. It is a tough competitor of Apple and people look forward to its various launches. Samsung has established itself as one of the premium brands in the smartphone market.

Samsung had launched a cheaper “budget-friendly” alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S10 called the Samsung Galaxy S10e in the year 2019. It was smaller when one compares it to the other smartphones that came in the market during the same year. Many people see it as a cheaper alternative to its flagship phone Samsung Galaxy S10.

On February 11^th, 2020, Samsung is unveiling a series of smartphones of the S20 in the market. These are Galaxy S20, Galaxy 20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. So, where is the S20e? is Samsung dropping the “e-branding” in its Galaxy S series?

There was no Galaxy S9e and Samsung has not released any announcements regarding the Galaxy S20e yet. So, was the launching of the S10e a failed off-experiment? Samsung was trying to use this phone as a more affordable version of the main model. But the speculations suggest that the plan did not go well, and Samsung has decided to discontinue this idea.

Was this a consequence of poor marketing?

Samsung Galaxy S10e was an enthralling device of the year 2019. It had certain unique features. Still, it did not come out to be a successful venture. The sales date is not available with us, but it is pretty clear from the various sources that the S10e was not a long time success, since Samsung does not show any signs of its continuation.

Samsung Galaxy S10e sales were the least among its other devices. The main problem in the scenario seems to be branding. Also, as a “budget-friendly” alternative, it did not stand up to that criterion for many consumers. The difference in the price -points was not that significant and to the consumers who did not see it as a cheaper offering, did not really understand its prospect.

Many people saw a greater advantage in investing in the actual flagship device as it had more features and also at not that of a price difference. Also, when several consumers posed their questions regarding the S10e, Samsung could not satisfactorily clear those concerns.

One can see it in a counter-light as a very clever strategy. By introducing such a device, Samsung was able to pump up the sales of its main devices. It is because this device makes the consumers excited and they were evaluating the pros of their main device in a better way.

What, if not?

Samsung may launch the Lite versions of its main models like the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite. This is a downgraded version of the main flagship device and also offers better services than the experimental S10e.

Therefore, we can positively conclude that the Samsung Galaxy S10e was a one-off experiment, which did not go as planned. Its continuation has been terminated as Samsung has made no implications regarding the S20e.

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime – Review

With a sleek design and extensive features, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is all that you could wish for back in 2015. Impressive design and unmatched specifications are what had made the smartphone a winner in its time.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime was launched in November 2014 with a GSM/HSPA/LTE technology. Having dimensions of 130.8×67.9×8.8 mm and weighing about 130g, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime was not only smooth and light on the hands but also premium in its outlook.

It has a built-in glass front and plastic back and frame. The key buttons are available n the smartphone for enhanced ease of use of the users. It has a physical home button at the bottom of the screen in the front and volume and power or lock buttons on the sides.

Operating System

The phone comes with a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, and Adreno 306 GPU that provides ample power for running all the applications smooth and lag-free.

The Core Prime smartphone runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, which is upgradable to 5.1.1 LolliPop that smoothly runs all its programs and apps in its background. It has a 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory and has expandable storage up to 64GB.

The TFT 4.5-inch display offers a proper delivery of colors and images with a resolution of 800×480 megapixels. It is embedded with a 2MP selfie camera and a 5MP primary camera, which features an LED flash with 720p video quality.

It also offers various other camera settings like beauty face, best photo, and more. Undoubtedly, a layback from smartphones today, the Samsung Galaxy Prime Core, was a recognized device in 2015.

Battery

The smartphone offers a 2000 mAh battery, which lasts up to 10 hours at a stretch for medium to high usage. It supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity of the 2.4GHz network. Also, the smartphone has a dedicated microSD slot up to 64 GB.

It has an in-built 2.0 micro-USB facility, GPS, and an FM radio features. Apart from this, the phone has other sensors, which include an accelerometer and proximity digital TV sensors.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Prime Core can be a weak competitor if you would compare it with the new and advanced smartphones of today. But, at the time and technology, it is a great option and preference by most of the users.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Review

The Galaxy S10 is a novel-looking 10th-anniversary launch from Samsung in its S series. It is very much similar to the other versions – S10+ and S10e from the same series. Samsung, with this release, has taken into the already in trend punch-hole display that was initially brought about by Honor. Here is the complete Samsung Galaxy S10 Review.

The in-screen fingerprint sensor is a further adaption from phones from OnePlus, Huawei, and Vivo.

The Samsung S10 has a 93.1 % screen-to-body ratio maximizing the display area of the phone.

Build and Design

Display and Audio

The 6.1-inch Super AMOLED screen has amped up its features with better outdoor visibility with superior contrast and color while maintaining an industry-standard aspect ratio of 19:9.

The QHD+ resolution of the phone has a pixel density of 550 pixels per inch, which assures the user a highly detailed view. It offers a naturally vibrant display that is utterly bright and colorful for playing HDR10+ enabled videos.

The S10 also offers to switch between resolution options for better conservation of battery.

The phone has single side speakers for a stereo effect that is loud enough for both calls and music. It supports Dolby Atmos for both speaker and headphones.

Performance, Storage and Gaming

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or Samsung Exynos 9820 chipset with eight cores in three clusters is built on an 8-nanometre process. The S10 has an 8GB LPDDR4x RAM with a choice in the internal storage between 128 or 512 GB.

It also offers additional storage up to 512 GB. Owing to the high-end processor, cycling between different heavy apps is smooth and without delay. The S10 uses Samsung’s new One UI version of Android 9 Pie as its operating system.

Gaming on S10 is built for incredible performance as you can comfortably download heavy gaming applications like Asphalt 9 and PUBG Mobile when the phone performs without glitch or stutter even while switching the games at worst.

Camera

Packed with triple-lens in the rear and one front-facing camera, the phone scores high in this section. The three-lens set up in the back includes a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that has optical image stabilization and phase-detection autofocus. The 12-megapixel wide-angle camera is the second or primary camera that offers a dual aperture with a field of view.

The third 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera comes with fixed focus and no optical image stabilization while the front camera is a single 10 megapixel, which is one less than that in the s10+.

The advanced camera settings of the S10 now have ten new categories in the scene optimizer. The Samsung camera AI can now differentiate between cats and dogs, which further fine-tune the white balance in the pictures. Also, the shot suggestion feature nudges you to frame or level your subjects better using the neutral processor engine.

The excellent camera feature of the phone offers crisp photos that are rich in color and sharpness while an automatic setting for noise reduction in low light pictures. The ultra-wide camera has a 123-degree field of view, making it a very versatile one. The camera also offers live filter options like live focus or color print filters.

Battery

With a much smaller unit than the other phones in the series, the Samsung S10 has a 3400mAH battery, which is still an upgrade from the S9 with a 3000mAH battery.

As Samsung promises, the battery has an all-day life, which takes up to 90 minutes to fully charge the device.

The more extensive features of the battery are wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The Wireless PowerShare option allows charging other wireless charging enabled devices directly with your Samsung S10.

All devices that support Qi wireless charging standard can be easily changed just by placing it on the rear of S10. In times of desperate need for a charge, this can prove to be helpful, although the charging speed remains slow.

Add-ons

This time Samsung adds, a dash of newness to the existing traditional fingerprint scanners and device unlock methods. The S10 comes with a brand new ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner that reads the ridges through the display.

The “face unlock mechanism,” though still needs some reasonable effort on it, works pretty efficiently and quickly. While it is fundamental that you try this in a well-lit room as it uses a 2-D representation of your face, the mechanism still looks far less secure than the traditional or fingerprint unlock method.

All in all, the Samsung S10 scores high on performance, camera, and design while it could do some more on the security features for this hefty priced possession.

Samsung Galaxy A90 5G Review
Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy A90 5G at an annual Berlin tech show, IFA 2019. It is the latest addition to its 5G devices and the latest entry to the affordable Galaxy A range by Samsung. Basically, 5G is an expensive feature yet. So, the 5G devices are quite on a high side currently. We have got a hands-on with Galaxy A90 5G.

Price and Launch Date

Just after its September 5 release, Samsung Galaxy A90 5G has been available for purchase in Korea. After a month, it was launched in the UK on October 4. If you live in the US or Australia, you need to wait a bit longer as the release date is still not clear in those regions.

When it comes to price, the 5G device will be available for €749 (which is roughly £630, $830, and AU$1215). So, we cannot claim it to be an affordable device yet. But it’s a bargain as compared to other 5G devices. We couldn’t convert the launch price exactly to other reasons. So, it might be priced more or less in your region.

Display

On paper, the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is an ‘affordable’ smartphone, but it’s only in comparison to other 5G handsets. It still holds a premium price tag, according to many people. On the other hand, it is going to be built with materials that are expected from a mid-range device and it can be felt with its weight.

Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is, of course slim, but not that thin at flagship level. The tactile volume rockers and power button on the side feel solid and well placed but there is still some heft on its thickness.

Weighing around 206g, it feels quite heavier than its price. It is quite tall with dimensions of 164.8 x 76.4 x 8.4mm, even though not as wide as other devices with the same screen sizes.

With dual-tone rear panel, black plastics are quite heavily used in its built. The upper half comes with gloss shine but it splits halfway down. The rear panel of the phone shifts to the rainbow-black effect. It reminds us of Google Pixel 3 somehow.

At 6.7 inches diagonally, the display is quite large but appealing too. It held its own brightness and vibrant colors to deal with the glare of several overhead lights at the showroom. But it dropped the color vibrancy at an angle.

Super AMOLED display is really very sharp but not that crisp like other Samsung devices. The apps and text looked legible but the pixel density is apparent and gets close enough. Well, you won’t find any change in daily use. But it seems that its 5G support ramps up the price tag over everything else.

Like most of the Galaxy A series of phones, it has got an Infinity-U display. There is a tear-drop notch having a selfie camera.

Camera

There are triple rear cameras in the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, including 48MP main, 8MP for the ultra-wide-angle lens, and 5MP depth sensor. Today, even mid-range smartphones have ultra-wide-angle lenses. But there is basically a telephoto zoom lens with optical zoom rather than the depth sensor in a 3-camera setup.

It means you can take pictures of your meals, pets, or friends with Samsung Galaxy A90 5G instead of far-away objects. It also has a 32MP front-facing camera, which is a high resolution for taking sharp selfies.

When it comes to responsiveness, it is truly visible in the device camera as well. The snapper launches quite quickly and focuses on the subject with just one tap and jumps into AR modes quickly.

You can quickly toggle between the camera modes with one swipe of the display. It also allows you to choose the mode and use it in a jiffy, even single-handedly. If it’s the first Samsung phone you are using, each setting’s name is confusing at first glance. You never know what “Live Focus” means before actually getting a hand on it.

When it comes to battery life, Galaxy A90 5G packs over 4500mAh of juice, which is quite huge. It takes some time to know the actual backup of the phone. But its capacity can definitely accompany you for longer.

Even though it seems discharging, its 25W fast charging is quite snappy. Let’s see if it comes with a fast charger bundled or you will need to buy it on your own.

Specs and Performance

When it comes to performance, our hands-on time was quite promising with Galaxy A90 5G. It was quite smooth when switching between apps, flipping through menus and loading apps and games. The screen response was quite fast and smooth with no lag or stutter.

The handset packs 6GB or 8GB of RAM, according to the model you choose. However, the processor the device would get power from is still not clear. According to the region, it could be Snapdragon or Exynos, just like other Samsung phones.

Similarly, it had no issues when switching between taps and apps for multitasking and firing up games. The demo model we tested had no games pre-installed to test. But the company claims that its processor would optimize with the game requirements on the go.

When you will need a power-packed headshot, it would supercharge the game. When using casual apps like Facebook or WhatsApp, it would bring back the performance to normal to save battery. It would have both faces unlock and in-display fingerprint scanner for security.

Our Verdict

The Galaxy A90 5G is all set to come up as an affordable 5G phone which wouldn’t force you to break the bank just for 5G connectivity. The handset will come with all the features to make it impressive like the sleek design and sharp and bright display. Game optimization and other features make it worthy for gamers.
