The Worst Apple Watch Problems, And How To Fix Them

Apple Watch is a very popular product in the wearable category. However, it doesn’t work always without glitches and issues. This article should throw some light on some of the worst Apple Watch problems along with solutions for handling it.

Apple Watch sometimes enters the Airplane Mode on its own

Sometimes, you might notice that the Apple Watch enters the Airplane mode on its own. It might also activate the Night Mode or other features. It is hoped that a WatchOS update will solve the issue. Till then, give these methods a try. A possible solution could be to un-pair your Apple Watch and restart it. Once done, pair it with your iPhone again. Chances are that it will not enter the Airplane mode again. Another thing you can try is to factory reset your Apple Watch.

Light bleed on Apple Watch Series 4 display

Light bleed from the Apple Watch Series 4 display is an ongoing problem for many Apple Watch users. This refers to the fact that one part of your Apple Watch may seem brighter than the other. It could also appear yellow, especially in dark surroundings. Since the screen is OLED, it could not be an issue with actual light bleed, but instead a problem with grey images. Since there is no way to deal with this on your own, you will need to approach Apple’s customer care team and get it replaced. While this problem is mainly seen in Series 4, it is also sometimes experienced in Apple Watch Series 3.

    Walkie Talkie app not working

Many users have complained that the Walkie Talkie app is no longer working. This is because Apple has disabled this app after concerns about privacy came up where private conversations were being eavesdropped on without their consent. Apple is working on fixing this issue and it is a top priority for them. They aim to restore the functionality of the Walkie Talkie app as soon as possible. The company did the right thing to protect the customers’ privacy.

Screen pops out of watch’s casing

There have been instances of users complaining that the screen of the Apple Watch pops out of the casing. This is being experienced by users from as early as 2015. It looks like the issue is due to battery. With the battery aging, it is susceptible to swelling, popping the screen out of the casing. While the Watch continues to work, it could be difficult to work with. The best way to deal with this would be to head to your nearest Apple Store. Since the issue is due to battery, the company will fix the issue or give you a replacement, according to the warranty terms.

    Apple Watch doesn’t charge

Many users have complained that their Apple Watch is not charging. If your watch is pretty new, take off the plastic attached with both the Watch and the charging equipment. Instead of using other chargers, use Apple Magnetic Charging Cable and the USB Power Adapter that came with the box. You could also try plugging the cable into different sockets. Trying switching the button off and turn on your Watch again and see if it is charging now.

    Highlights | Samsung Gear S3

Smartwatches are the future. While it may seem cumbersome for some, it may be useful for others. It features ease of use and does not require you to check your phone every few minutes to see if you have any message or notification. Samsung’s contribution to the world of wearables is the Samsung Gear S3. While it was manufactured with the intent of easing the user’s world, it does not feel like that. The second iteration of the smartwatch is not as polished and solid as one would expect it to be. It’s a unique design and the ton of features it offers makes it a great product. But, Samsung needs to ensure it supports more app and offers a better user experience to the users.

    Samsung Gear S3

One great thing about this smartwatch is that you can pair to an iOS device via the new iOS smartwatch-pairing app. From its last update, the hardware and the features have undergone a tremendous change. The software, however, leaves us wanting. With the Android Wear 2.0 just about to be released, the market for Android watches has started booming. While Samsung’s second attempt clearly showcases the hardware improvements, it is not so great to attract everyone just yet. Check out the reviews of the best Samsung smartwatches.

    Features of Samsung Gear S3

    The design

The company has designed the Gear S3 smart watch in two versions. The larger one looks and feels like a huge sports watch. Since not many like massive faces on their wrists, it did not become very popular. The other one is your usual design, but it is more versatile and is likely to make more people happier.

    Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay is obviously present in Samsung’s latest offering. The MST, a magnetic technology, usually present in Galaxy Phones is found here as well. This will allow you to simply tap and pay at places that accept Android Pay, Google Play, and Apple Pay.

    Samsung Gear S3 Highlights
    Samsung Gear S3 Highlights
    S Health fitness

S Health by Samsung is a built-in way for the watch to track your heart rate, log water and coffee intake, track activity, and overall fitness level. It is also designed to remind you to stretch when you stand up after sitting down for long.

    iOS apps

Samsung’s iOS app is not great. However, it has become a bit better and more versatile. You can connect to Samsung S Health, download watch faces, and other popular apps. However, not every in-demand app is available. For instance, Uber and Spotify are not compatible here.

    Samsung S-Voice

Surprisingly, the Samsung S Voice works quite well. When compared to Siri on Apple Watch and Google Assistant on Android Wear, Samsung S-Voice lags behind. However, it can still do a lot, such as getting weather, setting alarms, calling a contact, and getting you the traffic. You can also ask questions and receive answers.

    Spotify

Spotify on the Gear S3 can now stream over LTE or Wi-Fi. However, you can’t download the tracks. Another drawback is that the interface and the user experience are very poor. While you will require a paid Spotify account, you can listen to music on the go.

    Stand-alone phone with LTE model

If you purchase the LTE version, you would be able to connect apps, take calls, and do so much more with your Gear S3 smart watch. With Bluetooth headphones, you can use your watch to make and attend calls. One thing to note here is that you might have to pay additional charges to use this as an LTE phone.

    What Could Be Improved?

Design: A better design would be more efficient. While it is better than Android Wear, it has a lot of potential to grow. To get some apps to work seamlessly, there are many things that you have to go through, such as logging in multiple times, have different apps, and more.

Interface: While the interface seems good enough at first glance, it needs to be improved as well. This is because users will have to go through various menus and icons to reach what they want. It is not nearly as user-friendly as the Apple Watch. There are also no shortcuts that you can use to get weather, calendar, or music on the main screen.

    Samsung gear S3
    Samsung gear S3

Battery life: The battery life of Samsung Gear S3 Smartwatch is extremely poor, especially if you use LTE. Without it, you can expect to get about 2 days’ worth of use. However, with LTE, you will be lucky if your watch lasts for a few hours. Until battery life is improved, users will not be able to use the watch and its rich features for long.

Tizen OS: Tizen OS is a Linux-based operating system, developed and used by Samsung. It is Samsung’s very own app ecosystem which no one else shares. The number of apps that are compatible with Gear watches is no longer increasing. While there are many great apps, such as Bloomberg, CNN, Uber, Spotify, and ESPN, the list is actually quite small. Theoretically, Gear S3 has thousands of compatible apps, but not the ones anyone would ever want to use.

Swim-proof: The Gear S3 smart watch is IP68 rated. This means that the phone is waterproof for a quick shower or in the rain, but it is not advisable for swimming. It is also dust friendly.

    A Quick Summary

The Samsung Gear S3 is a great smart watch for Android phone owners. However, the decision is not so easy to make if you are an iPhone user. The Gear S3 by Samsung features some nice and interesting uses. Some users may find the LYE model quite attractive, despite the low battery life. The Gear S3 clearly has improved hardware, but when the software undergoes an improvement as well is when the product would become more worthy. Currently, the Gear S3 is a better choice than the Android Wear smartwatch. But, after the pending release of the new version of Android Wear, opinions may change.

    Best Samsung Smartwatches Review

We all know that Samsung is one of the most popular and best Smartwatch makers across the globe. They can compete with leading brands such as Fitbit Versa 2 and even Apple Watch 5. Since 2013, the company had started to design Smart Watch Samsung and initially launched the square-faced model and lacking with the Samsung Galaxy Gear model. We’ve seen various iterations of its wrist wear over those last six years, and the company has since come into its own with its latest series of wearables.

    Smart Watch Samsung Review

Tizen is the name of the software you’ll find running on these devices, and it offers a similar experience to the Apple Watch range of Wear OS watches. There are fewer third-party app options available on Tizen devices, but there are still a lot of choices available.

    List of best Samsung Smartwatches

Find below the list of best Samsung smartwatches offered from Samsung brand:

    Samsung Galaxy 42mm Rose Gold

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 42mm Rose Gold is available in midnight black and silver, as well as a rose gold variety that looks best alongside both evening wear and work outfits.

Its Super-AMOLED display is a respectable 1.2 inches and is accompanied by a rotating bezel for easy manipulation through the different apps.

Smart Watch Samsung Galaxy 42mm Rose Gold

It’s safe to use when swimming and it’s resistant to falls of about five feet, not to mention extreme temperature changes, shocks, and vibrations. There’s Samsung Pay support included, making this a great watch for everyday use.

Underneath that attractive exterior is plenty of power with a four-day battery life enabling users to monitor their heart rate, track their location via GPS, as well as receive notifications and take calls via the device and Bluetooth.

    Samsung Gear S3 Classic

Stylish in a timeless classic kind of way, the Samsung Gear S3 Classic will complement your outfit and other accessories while still being eminently practical. It has the distinctive steel rotating bezel favored by other Samsung watches that makes it easy to access apps and notifications with a simple twist.

The most important unique feature of Gear S3 Classic could be its AMOLED screen with the On-cell Touch feature, which allows the users to attend the calls with the help of Bluetooth, microphone, or even integrated speaker.

Smart Watch Samsung Gear S3 Classic

As expected, there’s Samsung Pay support for effortless payments, heart rate monitoring, step counter, automatic exercise and dynamic workout tracking, and GPS functionality. It covers all the bases you could need from a simple smartwatch while looking far nicer than most.

It’s slightly older technology than some other Samsung watches so don’t expect it to be as fast or for the battery life to extend past a couple of days, but there’s no denying that it looks great.

    Samsung Galaxy Fit

Whether you’re an avid swimmer, runner, or just devoted to meeting your step goal, the Samsung Galaxy Fit is an affordable, stylish fitness tracker that automatically monitors all of your activities. Its simple interface tracks everything from water and caffeine consumption to steps taken to sleep patterns.

Also, it can handle your workout, whether that’s long hours in the pool, rock climbing, hitting the gym or tackling the workday. Its military-grade durability makes it ready for the water, extreme temperatures or a few bumps.

    Smart Watch Samsung Galaxy Fit

The Galaxy Fit is about more than just connecting with your health: It’s about connecting your wellness to the rest of your routine. The device can communicate with your Galaxy smartphone to keep you updated with all incoming notifications, texts, and calls on the full-color AMOLED display.

Also, you can scroll through your calendar or upcoming weather mid-workout. Available in two colors, the Galaxy Fit has a battery life of up to a week.

    Samsung Gear Sport

The Samsung Gear Sport is a competent, cutdown version of the more expensive Samsung smartwatches. Its stylings are a little more akin to a fitness wearable but they’re subtle, and will still look good next to evening wear or casual attire.

It has a 1.2-inch Super-AMOLED screen and is water-resistant for up to 50m. Extra fitness features including all-day heart rate tracking, GPS mapping, easy calorie count balance entry, and personal coaching functionality for workouts and runs.

    Smart Watch Samsung Gear Sport

You can also use it to reply to calls and texts with a twist of the rotating bezel, as well as pay for items via Samsung Pay. Another Samsung innovation is their Connect system that lets you control your appliances, such as your television, doors, lights, and other compatible smart devices.

Battery life can be as high as about three days but expect it to last about two days when used for any length of time. That’s especially true when constant heart rate monitoring is activated.

    Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is the ideal smartwatch for any scenario. It’s as stylish looking as any conventional watch but packs in plenty of features at a keen price. It has a distinctive steel rotating bezel around its 1.3-inch Super-AMOLED full-color display, which is eye-catching but far from over the top.

That rotating bezel also means you can easily access apps in the interface, allowing you to navigate your notifications without clumsily needing to touch the watch (we hate missing inputs on bad touchscreens).

Smart Watch Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

You can use the watch to receive texts, calls, and notifications directly to your wrist. It’s even possible to make and answer calls hands-free via its built-in speaker and microphone.

Other smart features include the ability to make payments via Samsung Pay, saving you the effort of retrieving your wallet, and GPS tracking of exactly where you’ve been.

For the fitness enthusiast, there’s built-in step counting functionality, as well as the S Health app that can monitor your heart rate throughout the day. Military-grade level protection means the Gear S3 is resistant to water, dust, extreme temperatures, and occasional drops. Hence, it should serve you well through daily life. Expect a battery life of about four days before you need to return it to its wireless charger.

    Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro

Sometimes, it’s useful to have a middle ground between a smartwatch and a fitness wearable. The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro sits between those two quite nicely; it looks more like a Fitbit style device than watch but it still has an LCD screen that shows the time, heart rate, calories you’ve burned, and how many steps you’ve taken.

It’s water-resistant up to 50m so you can wear it in the shower, or in the pool, and works as a standalone music player with the option to download your favorite Spotify playlists. And it’s made of an elastomer so you won’t have to feel like you’re going to break it when working out to your favorite jams.

Smart Watch Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro

Fitness tracking is conducted via popular Under Armour services, MapMyRun and MyFitnessPal, so you can easily sync up your details for tracking over a long period. The heart rate monitoring is continuous as well, so you’ll always receive accurate feedback and statistics.

While you can’t reply to texts or take calls, you can still receive notifications so you know when you need to pull your phone out of your pocket, and when it’s fine to leave things be for a bit. The best part of the Fit2 Pro: It can last up to five days on a single charge.

  • Best (Android) Wear OS Watches 2019

Best (Android) Wear OS Watches 2019

Google’s Android Wear OS has had an unstable beginning but it has now become a very popular and mature platform with Wear 2.0 update and its rebranding of Wear OS in early 2018. It’s the end of Android Wear but it has left us with a better upgrade of Wear OS with improved battery life, navigation and much more. The list is endless.

Best Android Wear OS Watches 2019

Google has made watches more palatable by renaming its OS to those who use the iPhone. The best thing is that Wear OS watches are compatible with both iPhone and Android.

However, you should still check compatibility before buying each Wear OS watch with your device. We have listed some of the best Android Wear OS watches in the market.

    1. Fossil Sport

It is probably the best Wear OS to watch out there. It doesn’t have a lot of unique features and it is not the ultimate smartwatch money can buy. But it is definitely a perfect balance when it comes to functionality. It combines value for money with features in a light body.

You can easily wear it on daily usage or when working out. Battery life usually lasts up to 2 days. You can also access all the latest apps for Wear OS and it has GPS too.

Fossil Sport Best Android Wear OS Watches 2019

The best thing is that it is one of the first to have Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC. Hence, this smartwatch offers a great experience unlike others listed here. It is a user-friendly smartwatch offering a smoother experience.

    2. TicWatch E2

The TicWatch E2 is one of the most affordable smartwatches in this list and runs on the latest Wear OS. It comes up with a 30% better battery life than its elder sibling, TicWatch E. According to a reviewer, it took 2 days to discharge with normal usage. If you use plenty of fitness features, it may not perform well though.

    TicWatch E2

You can easily wear this smartwatch while swimming as it is waterproof. It also has GPS to track your location. However, it doesn’t have NFC for payments through Google Pay. But it still gives better value for money.

    3. TicWatch S2

This smartwatch is pretty similar to TicWatch E2 in specs. On paper, both of these watches are the same and the company launched two variants with two different names as they look different. TicWatch S2 generally refers to “Sport” for its more durable design as compared to E2.

It was tough, military-grade design and it can take even more wear and tear than other watches listed here. It is best suited for adventure sports.

TicWatch S2 Best Android Wear OS Watches 2019

In addition, it has GPS, a 2-day battery life, a waterproof design, and the latest Wear OS software. If you want a sturdy design, go for TicWatch S2. Otherwise, E2 is the option if you are looking for a budget smartwatch.

    4. TicWatch Pro

From the house of Mobvoi, the Ticwatch Pro is truly a power-packed smartwatch with two displays. Instead of having one display on either side, this smartwatch has a clear LCD panel over the colorful OLED display. It switches to the LCD screen to show just step count, time and other details when it is in battery saving mode.

    TicWatch Pro

The usual OLED display works like just another smartwatch. The LCD display is given to save battery unlike other smartwatches listed here. It has also got a heart rate monitor, premium design, NFC, GPS tracking, and even more features and it runs the latest Wear OS software.

    5. LG Watch Style

LG Watch Style is truly a stylish smartwatch in each sense as the name suggests, with a circular display and stainless steel, sand-blasted chassis. It measures only 10.8mm, making it one of the slimmest Wear OS watches.

It looks simply great on your wrist and it is worth noting, especially on smaller wrists. Most of the smartwatches look bulky due to which small wrists look dwarf with them.

    LG Watch Style

On the other side, the LG Watch Style has also got a rotatable crown. This way, you can easily navigate without having to push its small screen. It has got 1.2” P-OLED display which is completely curved without any flat tire.

It has got some basic specs but can definitely match the level of expensive watches. Despite its premium look, the price is not quite premium at all. However, there are some cost-cutting here to make the watch slim. It doesn’t have a heart rate scanner and GPS here.

    6. Misfit Vapor 2

The Vapor 2 is the second attempt of Misfit as a Wear OS watch. It is a positive step by Misfit in the right direction. This amazing product solves plenty of issues with the first generation. It has GPS to keep track of your steps, NFC for Google Play, and there are two different sizes.

    Misfit Vapor 2

This watch has got a very simple design and it is something you can expect from a smartwatch. You can choose from a 1.2-inch and 1.4-inch display, which has enough space to navigate through. It is one of the best smartwatches for athletes. It is very affordable as compared to some of the alternative smartwatches. It is one of the best options for many people.

    7. Huawei Watch 2

The Chinese tech company Huawei has had a great attempt to launch Watch 2 to increase the users’ base of Wear OS watches. Huawei has attempted to add a lot of cool new features to its latest smartwatch. It is still not clear if it would succeed with this device.

    Huawei Watch 2

It comes with NFC and GPS inbuilt along with 4G support. But the screen is quite small and it looks quite sluggish.  It may be best suited to a lot of amazing features and an appealing design. But the price is a bit on the high side as compared to the previous Huawei Watch.

    8. TicWatch C2

It is one of the least recommended Wear OS watches in the TicWatch range. It doesn’t look much innovative as compared to TicWatch Pro.

    TicWatch C2

It is still a viable choice as an affordable smartwatch. It comes with Google Play and GPS support in one package. But fitness fans may not like it that much.

  • The Google Pixel Watch

    The Google Pixel Watch

With the launch of the most awaited Google Pixel Watch, we are expecting Wear OS to come up at its best. But it doesn’t feel like we are going to see it anytime soon. According to the speculations, Google was expected to launch it with Google Pixel 4. But has it happened? No!

The Google Pixel Watch: Here’s Everything We Know

There are also rumors that Google was working hard to make its official smartwatch to showcase what Wear OS can do just like they had done by introducing Google Pixel phones to represent Android. But we haven’t seen any Google-branded watch yet.

In 2018, @Evleaks, a reliable Twitter leaker, had reported that Google Pixel Watch was being developed and he got the leaks from a trusted source. According to his source, it was supposed to be announced with Pixel 3 and 3 XL. But it didn’t happen either.

Meanwhile, we are about to break down all the details we know about the Google Pixel Watch so far. We don’t know whether it will really happen. But we have listed some of the speculated designs and features of the first flagship smartwatch by Google.

    Key highlights

    • What is Google Pixel Watch?

      – Google’s first flagship watch

    • How much it will cost?

      – The price might be on the high side, but there is no specific detail yet.

    • When it will be launched?

      – Probably in 2019, Maybe later

    Release Date and Price

For the rumored Pixel Watch, the official release date has not been announced yet. We heard the latest rumor which claimed that it is October 15 but it didn’t happen and we got only Pixel 4 launch.

We got our first rumor of the launch date in a tweet from Evleaks who claimed that it would be launched with Pixel 3 and 3XL earlier this year, according to his reliable source.

Along with second-generation Pixel Buds and Pixel 3 and 3 XL, a reliable source was fully confident that, a Pixel-branded watch would also be launched during the fall hardware event by Google. And it was reported in May 2018.

But in 2018, Google also confirmed that there would be no Pixel Watch anytime soon. Does it mean we would see it in 2019? Maybe there is no guarantee.

According to a report about 3 variants of Google Pixel Watch by WinFuture, the device has been on another level of verification of the design. So, it means it is being tested to find out if it is ready for mass production.

It shows that the design would be final enough for the production line in the future. Also, it has been cleared that a new codename has been found for a device “medaka”.

It is nothing new because Google always gives its products with a codename of sea creatures. Medaka is a small fish and the device may not have a notch. So, it seems to be a Pixel Watch.

Price-wise, we don’t have any strong information. Since the Pixel range usually brings high-end products with some flagship-level prices, it is expected that the smartwatch would also come at high prices. But we don’t have any evidence currently to prove that.

What about the news and speculations?

There is nothing much known regarding Pixel Watch when it comes to specs. It is all set to be a high-end device that uses the latest smartwatch techs.

It is expected to run the latest and most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 SoC which is known to improve battery life and give more power to your favorite apps.

The Google Pixel Watch: Here’s Everything We Know

The codename “Blackghost” is another rumored feature that is somewhat related to the power management circuit in the chipset. With this feature, your watch will hear your voice commands all the time without affecting battery life.

It is not actually the feature of Snapdragon 3100 chipset. But Google may have found a way to add this exclusive feature.

Another report from WinFuture suggests that the Pixel Watch will actually have 3 versions to be developed. The website has suggested some codenames for devices like Triton, Ling, and Sardine. All of these are being developed at Google HQ.

The exact differences between the devices are still unclear. It seems that there will be three variants of the smartwatch. According to the same report, one version would come with up to 1GB RAM, which is huge in terms of the smartwatch.

It is also speculated that one watch will be based completely on fitness and others will have LTE support. We still haven’t heard so far as to what those versions are going to be.

Here are some of the features expected from Google Pixel Watch –

    1. Rotating bezel or crown

Android Wear 2.0 has been focused on the way design is reworked to go well with rotating crowns or bezels before switching to Wear OS. We are yet to see other watches having that feature.

The Google Pixel Watch: Here’s Everything We Know

    2. Waterproof

We have seen smartwatches with some level of water and dust resistance. But only a few have managed to come with high enough IP rating to ensure that they can survive when we splash into the pool. We expect a completely waterproof Pixel Watch which would let you keep it on in the pool and also track your activity without any fear.

    3. Up to 3 days of battery life

Well, this one is quite simple. We expect Google Pixel Watch which doesn’t need to charge up even after 2 days of heavy usage.

Wear OS features a handy battery saver mode which can give even more time with smartwatch while limiting some features when it is turned on. Google definitely needs to improve the longevity of the smartwatch after a single charge.

    4. In-display fingerprint sensor

Adding an in-display fingerprint sensor can definitely put Pixel Watch ahead of the competition. Currently, Apple Watch and Wear OS watches are locked with a PIN code.

But it is not that secure. The in-display fingerprint scanner can fit smoothly into the watch without having to affect its visual appeal. You can also allow purchases with NFC.

But there are a few challenges. First of all, the thickness of the watch could be increased by adding this technology. Second, it might also cost higher. If Google manages to deal with these challenges, Pixel Watch could be a killer tech for Android users.

With similarities to Mi Smart Band 3, the all-new Mi Smart Band version 4 also includes a capsule. The capsule includes the PPG heart rate sensors and 3-axis accelerometer that allows the wrist band to track the entire real-time activities and as well as your heart rate.

Performance – Mi Smart Band 4

The all-new Mi Smart Band version 4 includes numerous smart fitness features. It can easily monitor your sleep and as well as tracks the heart rate. It can also help to track real-time activities such as outdoor activities, swimming, cycling, running, and many more.

Your heart rate can be tested by turning on the heart monitor screen feature on your bracelet or band 4 by scrolling down (within the main page) and long-press the available touch button.

Apart from calculating the walked or run distance and monitoring your heart rate, it helps to measure your sleep pattern as well. When compared with the different app’s notifications and dealing with other sorts of reminders, the Mi Smart Band 4 version includes an additional feature such as “Find your Phone”.

It is possible to locate your misplaced or theft mobile phone. It also alerts and vibrates the users by using the alarms. You can make use of the controlled MiFit App.

It has new features within the MiFit App and its overall application is not changed. The most interesting feature available within the MiFit application is referred to as Night Mode. It will automatically dim the display during its scheduled time frame or at sunset.

Within one week of its usage, you can easily manage & track the accurate data of your tracking activity and as well as your sleep. Band 4 utilizes the GPS data for Exercise mode within the connected or paired mobile phone for heart rate tracking and better distance.

How to configure Mi Smart Band 4

It is much easier to configure the Mi Smart Band 4 and also connect the same to your mobile phones. This app is compatible & supported with various devices running on iOS version 9.0 and Android version 4.4 or above.

A Quick Introduction – Apple Watch Series 1

Apple is counted as one of the most innovative smartphone makers globally, but they have stepped into the accessory market quite late. Multiple top brands have been in this segment for more than 3 years. Relatively speaking, Apple was late in joining the party. When Apple got down to it and developed the Apple Watch Series 1, all the fans went crazy! There were rumors all around the year that Apple was going to launch a watch and it has finally arrived. It has been noted that Apple usually studies the market before it releases products so that they don’t become a failure after the launch.

They obviously have a name to keep up. With the late entry, it has been forced to borrow a few features from other major manufacturers. In most areas, Apple is a great technology leader. Although late, we think that Apple has made a grand entry into this segment and will not let its fans down. Let’s get into the finer details before we take a verdict on this Apple Watch Series 1. For information on Apple Watch Series 1, check this out.

    Design

Most of the people were expecting the retro watch design to be implemented with Apple’s first smartwatch, but this did not turn out to be the case. Apple came up with a unique design of having the rectangular design dial. The touch screen is made up of 2.5D glass which added an extra zest of premium feeling with the watch. The watch is available in two sizes – 38mm and 42 mm. Different colored wrist bands are also available to attach to the watch. They are simple to change which is a great add on! The watch’s body also comes in different colors, such as silver and grey. The watch face can be customized according to the users need, making this watch truly unique and suitable for every occasion.

Apple Watch Sport 42mm (1st gen) Review

Apple has initially launched three editions of the watch – the aluminum sport edition, the stainless steel edition, and the gold watch edition. The sport edition has the silicone strap makes the watch more suitable for casual occasions. The stainless steel edition has the steel watch strap which gives the watch a premium crown. The sport edition of the watch is the lightest of them all. If weight is going to be a deciding factor for your watch, the latter would be the best one for you. It is one of the lightest when compared to similar fitness watches as well which is a big advantage. We can comfortably say that Apple has ticked this box right.

    Build

The controls of the watch are pretty straightforward. This is because the smartwatch relies heavily on the touch functionality of the watch. On the right-hand side of the watch, you will find a favorite’s button. This will allow you to access your contacts or the menu with just one single click. A longer press of the button would result in opening the power menu of the watch. It is strange to note that Apple has decided not to let users customize this button.

With the world obsessed with selfies, this would have been an ideal replacement to click photos via the smartwatch. Just about this key, you will find a digital crown. It looks like all the users are going to use this button quite frequently since scrolling with this is much better than using the touch screen. It also gives the users a feel of the traditional watches. Clicking this crown also acts as an OK or as an exit key.

    Audio Quality and Other Features

On the back of the watch, you will find that there are a very tiny loudspeaker and a mic that can help you in interacting with Apple’s own AI assistant, Siri. You will also be able to make calls through this feature, but this is something that needs more efforts from Apple. The bottom has a heart-rate sensor. This is also the place where you will be able to connect the watch with a magnetic charger. You will find two small knobs that help in replacing the strap of the watch. Changing the strap on this watch cannot get simpler – even a kid can change the strap on these watches. That is how easy Apple has made it!

    Display

Since this watch was launched in parallel with the iPhone 6 series, the same screen has gone into the making of the watch. The 2.5D curved screen is powered with an AMOLED screen with a screen density of 326ppi. With the watch available in 2 sizes, the 38mm watch comes with a 1.34-inch screen whereas the 42mm model packs a 1.53” screen. The resolution on both the watches is different which is obviously due to the size of the screen. The viewing angles of the watch are excellent and there is not much trouble in grasping what the screen shows even on the sunniest day. This is something that many smartphone watches have failed to work on, but full marks to Apple to have mastered this problem.

    Connectivity and Performance

In the connectivity department, we must say that Apple has not implemented something that many of its competitors have already explored. This series misses out on a SIM slot which you will find in many smartwatches these days. This means that the watch will not be able to connect to the mobile network. Though you will be able to use this watch as a standalone product, the features of the watch is reduced.

In order to utilize your watch to the fullest, you will have to ensure that you carry your phone with you and keep it connected to the watch. The watch is powered with Bluetooth 4.0 and can be connected to your iPhone and wireless headset in a jiffy. The watch is also able to connect to WiFi in case your Bluetooth is off. It is powered with NFC, which is one of the most important features to ensure that Apple Pay service works.

    Battery Life

The battery life naturally depends on the usage. A heavy user might get through the day without a second charge. If you keep the heart rate sensor switched off, the battery lasts much longer. We have also noted that more the apps you use, the more the battery it drains, which is logical. The watch can be charged easily using the 2m-long inductive charger which is magnetic and very similar to the ones which have been used for charging the MacBooks.

    Fitness Tracking

Apple has included a separate app on the smartwatch which helps you in keeping track of all your fitness stats. Apple watch does not feature a GPS which means it is heavily relying on your iPhone to track the location. The watch comes with a motion sensor which helps in collecting all the stats. Once you enter into the Activity app, it will show you four rings which effectively symbolize – total calories burnt, movement, exercise, and standing time. You will also be able to see them separately by swiping through the screen. Through the same app, you will be able to see a calendar view of how you are progressing on a day to day basis.

    Apple Watch Series 1 Display
    Apple Watch Series 1 Display

The workout app is another no-brainer for all the users. It helps you in setting goals and track different types of activities, such as running, cycling, walking, and climbing. All the goals can be set based on calories or time. With cycling or running, in case you carry your iPhone with you, it will also draw a map based on the location. All this data is also available on the health app on the iPhone. You will be able to access information, such as the number of steps, the calories burnt, and most importantly, your heart-rate stats.

The Verdict – Apple Watch Series 1

After a detailed review of the Apple Watch Series 1, we see that Apple has ticked most of the boxes with. Though we would have expected the watch to have an in-built functionality of having a SIM card, it looks like Apple has other plans. The company has been known to release things new to the market and start trending new tech. There might be something bigger in store! The build quality of the watch is amazing and something that we can’t find any fault with. The touchscreen and the display are faultless too.

Apple needs to work on the battery life, but since this is a first-gen product, this can be excused. It looks like the design is going to take the market by storm. Though there are critics who say that the rectangular dial does not look great, once you put it on, it becomes a fashion statement.  With the watch, you will get customized fitness tracking, which is another great feature. To wrap up, we can say that this smartwatch by Apple is a great buy, especially if you are an iPhone user. If you are not an iPhone user, why not check out the other great buys in the market? Sony SmartWatch 3 is a well-equipped and powerful wearable tech with superb battery life and good screen. If you do not have a problem with its normal wristwatch look, it could be a good choice.

    Sony SmartWatch 3

Sony SmartWatch 3 is not just a smartwatch. It is more than a capable fitness watch with in-built GPS. Especially when comparing to its traditional circular competitors like Huawei Watch and Moto 360, it is not made to make the great first impression. It has a square dial, which is more identical to Pebble Time than any other Android Wear device.

Its appearance might look flat but it has a lot of surprises. It is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and 512MB RAM. It is more than a fully functional fitness accessory with GPS built-in, as compared to other smartwatches. Well, all that power comes with a price. The Sony SmartWatch 3 costs £189.99 (~US$250 or AU$299.99).

    Display

The Sony SmartWatch features 1.6” 320x320p transflective screen. This resolution is found in Gear Live and G Watch R. The resolution standard remained the same over the past few years. Even on a small display, the images and text look noticeably sharp like on a 1080p display of a smartphone.

    Sony SmartWatch 3 Display

It has good sunlight readability than a lot of other smartwatches. The display can put a lot of light on brightness settings. Unless you deactivate the setting, it always remains on. It dims out but can still be read when not in use actively. It lights up when you raise your wrist or when you get a notification.

    Interface

Like a lot of modern smartwatches, Sony SmartWatch 3 does run Android Wear. The best thing is this OS does not add much bloat by the manufacturer. Android Wear is a well designed and attractive system in its infancy and there is a room for improvement.

The first screen on the watch is actually a clock face. It will be shown in dim light all the time unless you uncheck the always-on option in display settings. It will light up with one tap on the screen or you can raise the wrist. To dim it again, you can place your palm on it or wait a few seconds.

    Sony SmartWatch 3 Interface

Performance-wise, it seems really good as well. The watch would not record a tap occasionally and it can take some time to process your voice commands, for example, opening apps, or sending texts on the device. There is no noticeable lag when scrolling through alerts, messages, and navigating the interface. However, it goes without mentioning that it packs 512MB of RAM and 1.2GHz quad-core CPU.

    Connectivity and Battery Life

When it comes to choosing smartwatches, battery life is a bigger concern than on smartphones. Some of them not just have worse battery life than an average handset. People are likely to less charging up their watch. On average, a watch needs frequent charging.

Though Sony SmartWatch 3 doesn’t have anything to do with the common battery issue, but it is far better from the worst rivals. It has a 420mAh battery, which is big enough for a smartwatch. For example, LG G Watch R has a bit smaller battery of 410mAh and Moto 360 has a 320mAh battery. According to Sony, it has up to 2 days of battery life.

    Connectivity and Battery Life

In real life, it lasts around a 1 ½ day with mixed-use. For example, when you charge it 100% at 8 am, it can last till midnight with around 50% left. In addition, it is possible when you keep it connected to your phone all day, getting notifications and emails regularly, the screen is always on, and using voice controls occasionally. With light use, it can stretch to around 2 days. Nevertheless, don’t expect it to last longer than that.

When it comes to charge, it has at least one micro USB port. You do not need to have extra docks or chargers like other smartwatches need. There are always chances that you can find a micro USB cable.

On the other side, the USB port adds some bulk to the watch and is also not so easy to access. It would be great if it could have wireless charging support. It could be bothering to pry open the flap and plug it in.

Sony SmartWatch 3 has better connectivity than a lot of other wearable devices. It has Bluetooth 4.0 with some basic sensors like a compass, ambient light sensors, accelerometer, and a gyro, along with NFC and GPS. In the fitness and apps section, NFC may not be supported by Android Wear till date, but SmartWatch 3 is more future-proof than other wearables.

    What we liked?

One of the best parts of Sony SmartWatch 3 is its integrated GPS, which makes it a great workout companion, along with being dust and waterproof. This way, you can easily leave your phone at home while jogging.

It is also a smooth performer, without any slowdown and its 1.6” display is truly very sharp to use smoothly and it looks good. Its size has a good harmony between not looking a bulky phone strapped to the wrist and still being usable.

Battery life is also worth mentioning too. However, it demands to charge every single day, but you will not have to charge it every now and then. It can last at least all day long.

    What We Disliked?

Even though it has GPS in-built, it is still not so accurate. It can track your route and give a rough estimate of distance traveled. However, you cannot get the real accuracy of a professional sports watch.

GPS also kills the battery. In the long run, you might have to charge the battery in the evening.

    Pros

    • Great performance
    • Nice display
    • GPS in-built

    Cons

    • Poor GPS performance
    • Not that good in looks
    • Tricky charging port

    Verdict

We really liked Sony SmartWatch 3 in different ways. It is not that great, of course, no other smartwatch can be, but Android Wear is truly a useful gadget when it comes to staying updated with notifications.

The Sony SmartWatch 3 also manages to stand out in competition very much thanks to a good screen, superb performance, and great battery life. It is a great fitness gear with the inclusion of GPS as compared to a lot of smartwatches, even though implementation is not that good.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 Review – Still a Great Smartwatch Worth its Price

Apple Watch Series 3 Review – Still a Great Smartwatch Worth its Price

The iWatch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 3 is still a powerful smartwatch, though it is not the latest wearable tech. The Apple Watch Series 3 comes in two variants – one with GPS only and one with LTE connectivity. As an upgrade to Watch 2, this gadget has been a leader in longevity and fitness, with water-resistant casing, and cycle and run tracking onboard, and the heart rate monitoring underside.

The Apple Watch 3 runs the watchOS 5, which is a great upgrade. The Apple Watch 4 is here but Series 3 is still a great option. Both Series 3 and Series 4 are backed by watchOS 5 and also come in two variants.

    Latest Update

WatchOS 6 is launched and Apple is also going to bring new watch faces, App Store and menstrual cycle tracking to the smartwatches. Apple Watch 3 is expected to have these features soon.

    Apple Watch 3 Pricing

The Apple Watch 3 was launched as the most expensive smartwatch by the company in late 2017 but the price is now slashed with the launch of Series 4. There are 2 variants – one with GPS only and one with cellular/LTE connectivity.

The cost of LTE version of 3 series with 38mm band is $299/£299/AED 1,199 and one with 42mm band is $329/£329/AED 1,329, by offering heavy discount with the launch of Watch Series 5.

The cost of the GPS version of the Apple Watch 3 series is much cheaper. The Watch 3 GPS with 38mm band costs $199/£199/AU$319 and 42mm costs $229/£229/AU$369.

    Design

Both 38mm and 42mm sizes of Watch Series 3 are 2mm smaller than their Series 4 successors. On the digital crown, the red dot glare is the symbol of 4G/Cellular functionality on the Series 3. On Series 4, it has been toned down and is now an outline. The color spot adds a bit of fun but also clashes with some of the band colors.

    Apple Watch 3 Desing

Since the launch of Series 4, the Series 3 is available only in space grey aluminum and silver finishes. Overall, Series 3’s design is quite identical to the earlier versions. If you already have bands from Series 2 or original Apple Watch, these will also fit with Series 3 and the newer Series 4.

    Connectivity

    • Available on Vodafone and EE in the UK
    • Your iPhone should be on one of such networks

The 4G connectivity in the Cellular+GPS version was the best feature of Watch Series 3. So, you can easily leave your iPhone at home and run while it is being charged up at home. The display hides the UMTS cellular radio antenna and 4G LTE. They get back in action whenever you go away from the iPhone.

    Apple Watch 3 Connectivity

It is currently available on O2 Vodafone and EE networks only. It shares the same number as with iPhone thanks to eSIM tech. You do not have to swap out the interchangeable SIM. The eSIM is 100th the size of a physical SIM. So, Apple hasn’t expanded the size of the device. You will need to pay extra £5 per month for this connectivity. All four networks are covered in the US.

You can use those connectivity options to receive messages, make calls, access Maps, listen to podcasts, and stream Apple Music. It has basic yet user-friendly call interface with a number pad. If you have connected a Bluetooth headset like AirPods, you can also call your favorites and contacts.

    Battery Life and Key Specs

    • Flawless Bluetooth pairing
    • Better Wi-Fi performance
    • Long-lasting battery life

When there is no major change in the design over the last generation, Apple has made a lot of changes under the hood. The third-generation dual-core smartwatch processor, S3 is powering the iWatch Series 3. With this upgrade, The Watch Series 3 has got smoother graphics, faster app launch times, and built-in speaker for voice commands through Siri.

    Battery Life and Key Specs

Apple has also improved the W2 chip for 85% faster performance in Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi. It takes just a second or two to connect to your Bluetooth headphones or AirPods.

Series 3 lasts happily all day long in daily use. However, if you are going away for a long weekend, be sure to carry your charger. The Apple Watch 3 also comes with barometric altimeter for tracking stairs climbed, elevation gained, and other outdoor activities. It is even better for skiers, cyclists, and boarders. It is a great feature available only on professional sports watches.

Listen to Podcasts and Music on the go

    • Spotify is now supported
    • Podcasts app works as well
    • Apple Music works online and offline

Listen to Podcasts and Music on the go

You can stream over 40 million songs on Apple Music on the go if you have been using 4G LTE/Cellular version, even without carrying iPhone. It is a cool feature, especially when you are working out or on the mid-run. You do not have to worry when it comes to switching the music. WatchOS 5 also supports podcasts. However, such features are limited only to Apple apps. However, it is still expected for the Apple Watch to support Spotify via the cellular network.

    Software

    • Walkie Talkie not that functional
    • Automatic activity tracking
    • Siri watch face comes handy

The watchOs is a great improvement on the Series 3, especially because it can detect workouts that you have not started manually. It tracks mile data and also performs target pacing for runners. It also adds new workouts for hiking and yoga. The Siri watch face now supports Siri Shortcuts. You just have to raise your wrist to activate Siri.

It has also improved notifications with more interactions. The Series 3 also comes with a Walkie Talkie app, but it is not yet helpful. Nevertheless, you can easily sync podcasts with it.

    Pros

    • Good battery life for a smartwatch
    • Great fitness features
    • Bright, clear display
    • Easy to make calls

    Cons

    • The LTE model is overpriced
    • Supports only iPhone

    Bottom Line

The 4G connectivity is a great standout feature and competitive pricing is another great hype since Series 4 has launched. The Apple Watch 3 is still the best choice over Series 4 because it has all the similar features. The major difference is a bigger screen and thinner body. However, you may not want to pay such a heavy price for some minor changes.
