Will the Samsung Galaxy S10e Go Down As Just One-Off Experiment?

Samsung is the manufacturer of the world’s most sold and preferred smartphones and other quality devices. It is a tough competitor of Apple and people look forward to its various launches. Samsung has established itself as one of the premium brands in the smartphone market.

Samsung had launched a cheaper “budget-friendly” alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S10 called the Samsung Galaxy S10e in the year 2019. It was smaller when one compares it to the other smartphones that came in the market during the same year. Many people see it as a cheaper alternative to its flagship phone Samsung Galaxy S10.

On February 11^th, 2020, Samsung is unveiling a series of smartphones of the S20 in the market. These are Galaxy S20, Galaxy 20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. So, where is the S20e? is Samsung dropping the “e-branding” in its Galaxy S series?

There was no Galaxy S9e and Samsung has not released any announcements regarding the Galaxy S20e yet. So, was the launching of the S10e a failed off-experiment? Samsung was trying to use this phone as a more affordable version of the main model. But the speculations suggest that the plan did not go well, and Samsung has decided to discontinue this idea.

Was this a consequence of poor marketing?

Samsung Galaxy S10e was an enthralling device of the year 2019. It had certain unique features. Still, it did not come out to be a successful venture. The sales date is not available with us, but it is pretty clear from the various sources that the S10e was not a long time success, since Samsung does not show any signs of its continuation.

Samsung Galaxy S10e sales were the least among its other devices. The main problem in the scenario seems to be branding. Also, as a “budget-friendly” alternative, it did not stand up to that criterion for many consumers. The difference in the price -points was not that significant and to the consumers who did not see it as a cheaper offering, did not really understand its prospect.

Many people saw a greater advantage in investing in the actual flagship device as it had more features and also at not that of a price difference. Also, when several consumers posed their questions regarding the S10e, Samsung could not satisfactorily clear those concerns.

One can see it in a counter-light as a very clever strategy. By introducing such a device, Samsung was able to pump up the sales of its main devices. It is because this device makes the consumers excited and they were evaluating the pros of their main device in a better way.

What, if not?

Samsung may launch the Lite versions of its main models like the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite. This is a downgraded version of the main flagship device and also offers better services than the experimental S10e.

Therefore, we can positively conclude that the Samsung Galaxy S10e was a one-off experiment, which did not go as planned. Its continuation has been terminated as Samsung has made no implications regarding the S20e.

A name is yet to be confirmed officially by the SONY workers for its upcoming revolutionary flagship. It can be anything from Xperia 1.1 or the Xperia 1 2020, no one knows for sure. The hype around the launch is a huge one, and the tech enthusiast is super excited about getting their hands on the device.

Expectations are on hype

SONY has consistently delivered some of the best products over the years, and so the expectations for the new launch are also very high. People are looking forward to its launch, and it seems that the product is already a success among the general consumer base.

PUBG Mobile Game is China’s most profitable mobile game overseas for 2019

Chinese mobile game PUBG is the most played game outside of China, as of 2019. The US $776 million is the total valuation of PUBG in 2019. PUBG downloads from Google Playstore and the iOS App Store have generated this revenue.

PUBG stands for Player’s Unknown Battlegrounds. It is a battle royale game, developed by LightSpeed and Quantum Studio (internals of Tencent Games). However, there have been other developers in the past.

Who is in the race with PUBG?

In 2018, Knives Out was the most played Chinese game across the world, with annual revenue of US $465 million. This year, PUBG has defeated Knives Out.

In 2019, Knives Out (developed by NetEase) are runner-up while Rise of Kingdom (From Lilith Games) is in the third position.

What is the Gameplay?

It is a multiplayer, (player versus player) game. Anyone can play either solo, dual, or team.

In battleground, a helicopter drops every player at the specified flagged location via parachute. The player reaches one of the four flag points according to the map. Those areas are 8*8 Km, 6*6 km, and 4*4 km. The player has no gears while landing.

Once landed, players move ahead in their quest to different areas, buildings & ghost towns for new collectables. The collectables include weapons, vehicles, armours, and much more stuff.

As the minutes pass, maps shrink, increasing the chances of encounters. The player or team who is alive at the end wins the game.

Game for PEACE

Although, Chinese developer Tencent has massive revenue from PUBG across the world. It had to be modified/overhauled to meet specific Chinese regulatory requirements. It led to change PUBG’s name to Game for PEACE, in China.

Game for PEACE is a less violent version of PUBG and has more visuals indicating to Chinese patriotism.

Including both PUBG and Game for PEACE, Tencent earned a valuation of US$1 Billion.

Which countries play it most?

Chinese game PUBG is very popular in the USA and Europe. Gamers in the USA contributed to one-third of the total PUBG’s revenue.

Out of the total PUBG players (including Game for PEACE), 24% of users are in the USA. 2nd highest percentage is far behind the USA. It’s Germany, with 6% of users.

Revenue Boost

Last year, Tencent re-released PUBG mobile version, which increased the revenue from $25 million to $160 million. It is a growth of 540%, as per data from Sensor Tower Analysis. After re-release, PUBG’s activity & revenue increased by 39% from Jan 2019 to Dec 2019.

Even if we exclude Game of PEACE from the above equation, figures say an increase of 152% (to $63 million)

Conclusion

PUBG is the fastest-growing mobile game in the world right now, and it will continue to grow at this speed. However, many controversies have also arrived with PUBG games in the recent past, especially in India. Apart from all this, PUBG seems to be an addictive game.

Can Alibaba and Baidu convince Chinese Travelers to ditch Google Maps?

It is a well-known fact that the Chinese do not use Google anymore. So is the case with all Google services, and Google Maps is no exception. Due to the Great Firewall in China, Google Maps is no fortunate. But China has alternative apps named Baidu Maps and Alibaba’s AMAP (popularly known as Autonavi or Gaode Maps).

AMAP and Baidu are in the technological race with Google Maps worldwide. AMAP is developing its platform and looks to attract frequent tourists across the globe in and out of China.’

Overseas Chinese users

Although China has blocked Google Maps, it cannot restrict Chinese people while they’re abroad. Chinese people who use China SIM cards still do not get Google Maps. But, those who have overseas SIM or overseas Wi-Fi can use G-Maps at ease.

Baidu is offering International Maps for the last four years but hasn’t been in close competition with G-Maps. There are many forums on different Chinese websites that suggest the usage of G-Maps. One user said: “Why to use Baidu and AMAP when you’re already abroad?”

These comments hint at the technical difference between the three apps.

Google Maps, Baidu Maps, and AMAP current standings

Google Maps are more detailed, with geographical and topographical information. On the other hand, Baidu Maps offer only street information with details of surroundings like markets, restaurants, and café. It doesn’t appeal to users much as per reviews.

Google Maps allow you to check all types of transportation between 2 places. Baidu has a partnership with Ctrip to offer car hiring services via Maps.

On the other hand, Alibaba’s AMAP is developing a similar service for MAPS to enter the Chinese market. AMAP has recently partnered with Here Technologies (data mapping company) to include global maps and traffic details across the globe. Here Technology is already providing these services to Baidu.

Head to Head comparison

Google’s Map connects with 4,248,409 sites while only 59,386 sites connect with Baidu. Head to Head, 1 billion people use Google Maps, while only 348 million people use Baidu.

Baidu has to work a lot on its technology and user platform to make it better.

Conclusion

Baidu users are majorly Chinese but not much outside. Thus, there is still a silver lining here for AMAP. AMAP is developing its platform with lots of inclusions that will benefit Chinese users. For example, connective with car and taxi riding apps, food ordering apps, and linguistic options.

How to create a dropdown list in Excel

You are probably familiar with drop-down lists from one of the numerous forms that each of us has filled out somewhere on the Internet. These are the fields with the small, downward-facing arrow on the side, which presents a selection of possible entries for the field – of course, if you click on the arrow.

Excel also has the function of creating dropdown lists. Their use is always useful when the content in columns is repeated frequently and you don’t want to type every time or when you want to limit the end-user of your document to a few options.

CREATE A DROPDOWN LIST USING AN EXAMPLE

I have decided to create an overview of my DVD collection, which has grown quite extensive over the years. To save myself unnecessary work, I would like to create a dropdown list for the Genre column.

THE FIRST STEP: SET THE DROPDOWN VALUES

First I have to tell Excel what values I would like to have in my dropdown list. To do this, I open another table and enter the data there one after the other in a coherent row or column and without empty cells.

THE SECOND STEP: CREATE THE ACTUAL DROPDOWN LIST

Next, I mark all the cells in my list, right-click on them once and choose Define Name. This opens a window in which I enter a suitable name for my dropdown list in the Name field. This must not contain any spaces and will not be visible anywhere later. However, I need it to create a connection between my selection and the actual dropdown list. In our example, I choose Genre and then confirm with OK.

THE THIRD STEP: INSERT THE LIST

I switch back to the table in which the dropdown list should appear and select the cell in which I want to insert the list. Now I select the Data tab and click on Data Review here. A window is opening. In the Settings tab, under Allow, select the List entry. A source I enter an equal sign (=), followed directly by the name of the list previously created. So for us, that would be = genre.

I make sure that the checkmark for cell dropdown is set. With another checkmark at ignoring empty cells, I allow that the user does not have to select an entry. Finally, you can confirm with OK. That’s it, we’re done! In my field, I now have a full dropdown list that I can copy and paste quickly to the entire column. Now I don’t have to enter every genre by hand.

A FEW ADDITIONAL TIPS

In the Data Check window, you can use the Input Message and Error Message tabs to further refine your dropdown list. These options are particularly useful if you are not the only user of the Excel folder and you want to give your colleagues or customers a few pointers along the way. Under the input message, you can create a note that appears when you select the dropdown list. Simply enter a suitable title and text.

CONCLUSION

Dropdown lists are quick and easy to create in Excel and can save a lot of work. They are also used in all forms that are filled out by other users and in which only very specific entries are to be permitted. With a few clicks, you can easily get to the desired result.

Fossil Hybrid HR review

Hybrid smartwatches are not one of my personal favorites but they evidently come in a myriad of varieties and specifications. They are well-known for their simplicity, both from the looks and the feels and functions.

Some just simply keep track of your daily activity and stop there. Whereas others are entirely just smartwatches but with hidden displays. Some devices even fall somewhere close to in between the two.

However, the Fossil Hybrid HR is a smartwatch that leans on the smarter end of this wild spectrum.

It can’t be called an Apple watch for sure, but it also cannot be called anything less of a smartwatch. There is just so much controversy beyond this watch’s own unique design.

But if you are confused then here is a complete review of the Fossil Hybrid HR that you might just find useful.

Design at first glance

If you get a first glance at this watch and forgivably mistake it for an analog watch then perhaps it would comfort you to know that you are not the first.

The very design of the watch is classy and has an analog look to it. Complete with a set of analog watch hands it is easy to pass it off as such.

It even spots numbering around the bezels of the screen. A feature that has long since existed in a lot of analog designs.

For one E-Ink uses minimal battery allowing the HR to last at most two weeks after one charge which is obviously a very handy feature.

The E-ink display also does a unique job of blending in with the watch face. You can hardly notice the whole display except for when the user wants to look at the notifications and such.

This feature just makes the watch blend in fairly with the environment and outdoes a lot of AMOLED displays in the process too.

The Hybrid HR, however, lags a bit due to the fact that E-ink screens have lower refresh rates that the screens offer. This was a common problem with the E-ink screens and even though some amendment has been done there is just still a lot more lagging present in the screens.

The display, however, spots a read-out display that is essentially just the company’s fancy way of saying e-ink. There are a couple of pros that come with the e-ink screen and some fair set of cons that the accompany the screen.

There are a couple of times that the OS lags whenever one is trying to operate the device. As infrequent as this might be there is still need to not it out.

The Hybrid HR’s screen is not lit up by default which can prove to be extremely difficult to view in low lighting conditions.

To a plus side, Fossil took note of this and added a backlight option that can be accessed via double-tapping the screen of the watch.

Another interesting thing about the Hybrid HR watch is that one can flick their wrists in case the watch face’s hands are blocking other information that you want to see. What this flick does is that it sends both hands of the watch spinning in opposite directions.

The hands also automatically move onto the three and nine positions whenever the owner is scrolling through the menus.

Since we are talking of scrolling menus, the Hybrid HR just so happens to not be a touchscreen watch. Hence you can handle all navigation by the side-pushers on the side of the watch’s casing.

The interface of Hybrid HR

Software features are obviously limited in the Fossil Hybrid HR. This means that if you are a fan of smartwatches that can play smart games and connect to the internet then you are in the wrong place. Hybrid HR has a very minimal and simple design to its interface that would favor anyone that has intentions of having a watch that is both modern and simple.

You can assign simple shortcuts to the earlier-mentioned side buttons. These include functions such as workout mode, wellness dashboard, stopwatch, music control, timers, and weather.

On the Hybrid HR, watch face options are pretty but a few only. This doesn’t come as news as the Hybrid HR is technically a smartwatch that isn’t really a smartwatch? Yeah, there is just so much that the developers have been able to create off of this watch that I honestly don’t think losing smartwatch faces is that big an issue.

Performance

There are so many performance ups and downs in this bad boy. Hybrid HR is a good watch, it really is, and for an entry in its genre, there’s just so much that can be said of it.

However, there are those few downs that I am honestly trying to avoid mentioning but just not possible. Features such as built-in GPS are absent. I almost freaked when I noticed this but sadly, yeah, there’s no GPS.

It’s a good workout watch and you could consider using it for work out but, honestly, it personally wouldn’t be my first choice.

Features of Fossil Hybrid

It can track the calories you burn, your steps, active minutes, heart rate and all that but no incorporation with other fitness apps that are also as important.

The step count, however, is admirably accurate and can be one of the features that I’d openly rely on in the Hybrid HR watch.

For a watch that’s classy and such a great judge of character, the Fossil Hybrid HR watch is very up to date. It’s not necessarily meant for geeks and gurus but it plays the part quite efficiently and showcases a brand that is genuinely new in the market.

Conclusion

This watch also goes as far as to sync with the user’s outfit which is a feature that is present in a lot of smartwatches nowadays. However, it tends to lean onto a more classy approach than an urban fashion kind of look.

All in all, it’s a nice watch and worth getting if you are a fan of minimalistic watches.

Viacom has silently launched the Android TV app Viacom 18 for Voot

Much-known Netflix has been in existence for a long time now. A period during which it has enjoyed a fairly good period at the top. But with new industries struggling to match up to Netflix’s business structure, little is known of how long the company may maintain its position at the top.

Viacom 18 Network has finally launched the popularly known Voot service for Android, IOS, and web.

Along with brand new content, the company has introduced a new parental lock feature, some content recommendation and an inventory that consists of 17000+ hours of the most popular shows from their own network and licensed properties.

The section of the on-demand television has been getting huge traffic of late with local programming platforms such as Hotstar gaining popularity within the region and other international players such as Netflix also breaking the market.

All about Viacom 18’s Platform

The Viacom 18’s platform hopes to make intends to take advantage of this slowly rising market and digging into its own wide array of content and making it public to most viewers.

The network offers diversity in content with a large library in comedy, drama, reality TV as well as kids shows. And the library isn’t limited either as it keeps growing gradually and offers a wide and broad future.

The Viacom network is also giving a big push having 4 original shows to its network. Some are already lined up and more are set to come with time.

The network is hoping to have a large and extensive library of content that is genuine and original.

TCL Has Set Date for MWC event

The 2020 MWC event is set to take place in Barcelona where TCL will introduce its latest smartphones and technologies. Invitations were sent to media worldwide that revealed the company will have a[ress conference on February 2020 at 18:00 local time.

The event is set to take place before the congress. This means that once the exhibition starts, visitors will be among the first to get their hands on the new TLC and Alcatel smartphones. Thus, it set to be from the 24^th to the 27^th of February.

Earlier this month, the company introduced its own branded smartphones the TCL 10 5G and the TCL 10L that were in the premium segment.

Both smartphones have been declared to have flat surfaces whereas the company’s other entry, the TCL 10 Pro is expected to have curved edges on the side.

Price Range and Features

All three entries are expected to have a quad-camera set up at the back that will be lined up horizontally (more like the galaxy 10 series).

The devices are expected to have a full range of upper-medium chipsets so do not be surprised to see a Snapdragon 865 in the TCL 10 Pro.

At the CES 2020 event, there were also four new Alcatel entries that were noticed. Hus the Alcatel 3L, the Alcatel 1S, the Alcatel 1V, and the Alcatel 1B. All of these were price tagged between $65 and $165 which is a modest price tag if you ask me.

Consumers are yet to see if the company may also add more devices to the Alcatel line or will just stick to updating its TCL 10 lineup as there wasn’t that much that was given during the CES convention.

There is so much expectation for the TCL brand and hopefully, the company will not disappoint.

Much like the previous years, the company is slowly making it a trend to release its phones during the late February period and I can’t say that it isn’t working for them though it is doing a great job for sales.

Competition between Counterparts

Alcatel is a communications device giant. And with so many smartphone companies emerging, there is just so much that the brand has to do to make sure it reclaims its position.

That being said, it is obviously going to take an immense amount of effort before it gains stage to compete with fellow counterparts such as Samsung. But let’s just hope that this new range of devices will help the company regain its status at the top of the throne.

If anything is to be said, this new TCL range of smartphones is something that’s fresh and maybe they may present a challenge to other smartphone brands that have existed over a while now.

Conclusion

No pressure or disrespect intended, but the company taking on this line has given TCL mobile industry some new big shoes to fill considering how successful the brand has been in the TV industry.

Showbox is one of the most popular online streaming apps today. It has smooth UI and easy navigation and the way it offers so much at a cheap cost. The app stood out for a couple of reasons and went out of its way to deliver on some wonderful services during its run.

Sadly, news came that Showbox would be shutting down for good. The application which served more than a million users worldwide is closing its doors.

Rumors have been spread that various production companies forced the developers and promoters of Showbox to discontinue the support of the app.

According to sources from TorrentFreak, the production company requested Cloudflare to reveal the identities of operators behind various support sites to the application.

They further filed a lawsuit against the various websites which promoted the app which eventually led to the sudden disappearance of the app from various ShowBox promoting applications.

Most of these sites keep giving a legitimacy warning message that contains a lot of words but eventually just leads to a sue threat.

However, we all know that the internet is nothing less of an ocean that runs wild and free and there is very little that can be controlled. Eventually, the app will just pop up anywhere maybe with a different name and logo who knows?

But for now, the application has been officially termed illegal in most support sites and most support has been pulled from it.

Is Showbox Legal or Can one get in trouble for downloading it?

Over the past, there have been many unauthorized streaming apps that have been shut down. It is just to be reincarnated into new applications with new names and new logos.

The Showbox app is no different from these such applications and as much as there can be a lot of visible barriers that would make it get locked off of view from a lot of people, there is the certainty that it will find its way back to the spotlights again.

Whereas this is the app, streaming content illegally is a punishable offense and many states have different rules and legislations about it.

Conclusion

However, the government often targets the publishers of these such apps to curb the root cause of the problem. Therefore, chances are that you probably won’t be touched in case you have the app. However, it will depend if you will manage to get in the first place.

Mid last year, the company released its first foldable phone. I will be honest at first it had a lot of issues, but the company finally came back and redid the phone. They had eliminated the mistakes that they had earlier made. And now they are coming back with a complete foldable phone with improvements.
