    Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Review

The Xiaomi Mi 9 is no longer the latest model. A worthy successor, the Mi 9T, is now out. Of all the 9s, Mi 9 SE is considered to be the most compact. It features a Super AMOLED screen by Samsung. It has been priced very reasonably, making it one of the few devices out there that offer premium features at a budget. The phone boasts of a triple camera with regular, tele, ultra-wide lens. Although this device features the least powerful processor among others in the family, the Snapdragon 712 is not really that bad. With a smaller screen, it stands to reason that the 9 SE features a smaller battery too. This Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Review should throw some light on its features.

    Design

Known for being the smallest of all the Mi 9s, the 9 SE comes with a screen diagonal of 5.97 inches. It fits into the pockets easily and is perfect for one-hand use. With a triple camera at the rear, it doesn’t lack anything with its smaller size. The back of the phone could have been designed a bit better. The three camera modules tend to stick out by about 2mm, making it wobble if you lay it down. However, with big image sensors, it is a reasonable compromise. You might also see some similarity between the Mi 9 SE and iPhone X/XS. Thankfully, you will not see any notch at the top. Instead, there is a water-drop cut-out for the selfie camera.

The bezels are quite thin, and it looks like the Super AMOLED display in 9 SE is designed after Mi 9 and Mi 9T. It has one of the thinnest chins in the market. The OLED panel features an under-display fingerprint reader. One of the downsides of the design is that the headphone jack is no longer there. Mi has chosen to follow the way of the other premium devices. The infrared blaster on the 9 SE works excellently with Xiaomi’s power button. One the left side is the volume controller while on the other end is the card slot. It can take two nano SIMs, but no microSD.

    Display

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE comes with a 5.97-inch display. Although it may seem large, this in fact, is what passes for small in today’s trend. The display features tall aspect ratio and slim bezels offering the users a brilliant and rich display experience. The 9 SE has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 2340x1080px for a pixel density of 432ppi. According to Xiaomi, the 9 SE can output 650 nits of brightness. With switching off the ambient light sensor and adjusting the brightness manually, you would be able to get 450 nits. This is, by most standards, good enough display stats.

    Battery Life

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE features the smallest battery among the Mi 9 series. It makes sense since it is also the smallest phone. With a 3,070 mAh battery, the phone can last for about 25 hours of voice calls on a 3G network. If you tend to browse, you will still receive about 10 hours of use. The phone has also been designed to support Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ which means that it is compatible with the USB Power Delivery standard. In just an hour and a half, you will be able to get your device charged up fully. In about 30 minutes, the 9 SE will reach about 47%.

    Audio Quality and Loudspeaker

The single down-firing speaker is excellent and is as loud as you could possibly wish it to be. It is better than most Mi phones and probably even others! The high volumes don’t distort the sound. It produces a rich, clear, and detailed sound. The headphones work very well too. Although the channel separation is not very great and it also has a bit of inter-modulation distortion, overall, the performance is quite reliable and app-laudable.

    MIUI 10 with Android 9.0

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE runs on Android Pie along with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10. The MIUI updates are pretty regular and promptly reach all the users. MIUI’s latest feature is the Always-on Display. While Samsung already has a similar feature in place, Xiaomi has introduced it for its phones as well. As the name suggests, the screen would stay on at all times. You can set it to switch on or off at particular times. There are plenty of themes available that you can set up which would suit this feature better. The under-display fingerprint scanner has improved in leaps and bounds. The phone also features a new unlock option – face unlock.

A feature carried here from Mi 9 to the 9 SE is the Dark Mode. This changes the system colors from white to black. This not only saves power draw but also gives a change of aesthetics. You might notice that the 9 SE comes with a ton of live wallpapers that changes based on different times of the day and so on. There are plenty of themes as well. There is no app drawer in MIUI, so all the apps on your phone would be there on the home screen. However, you would be able to group the apps into folders to organize them better.

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Camera Review
Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Camera Review

    Camera Quality

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Review simply cannot be complete without talking about its excellent camera. The ultra-wide-angle, fixed-focus camera has a 13MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture lens having a 15mm equivalent focal length. The 8MP telephoto shots come with an f/2.4 aperture. The camera also has HDR settings with On/Off/Auto toggles. If you love taking pictures, you will find a full range of filters as well. There is also a Beauty Mode. In the Pro Mode, you would be able to adjust white balance, focus, ISO, and shutter speed in addition to other factors.

Verdict – Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Review

While this is considered to be the smallest Mi 9 phone with the lowest battery capacity, other features more than makeup for this. Its size is not really a drawback since it can be easily used with one hand and it can fit perfectly in our pockets. The design of the device has been ingeniously thought of with the display being rich and detailed. The excellent sound quality, the appreciable camera, and Xiaomi’s very own MIUI, you can be sure that the Mi 9 SE is a remarkable option.

  • Realme X2 Pro, 6GB RAM and 64GB Storage Option

Realme X2 Pro, 6GB RAM and 64GB Storage Option

WRealme has really made a great presence in the Asian market with aggressive pricing and killer phones. When OnePlus started as a flagship smartphone brand which worked to climb up the ladder to target the premium smartphone market, Realme has been doing well with its budget to mid-range devices in its portfolio. It’s the first time for Realme to launch its flagship device – Realme X2 Pro.

Realme X2 Pro, 6GB RAM and 64GB Storage Option Spotted on India website

Apart from Realme 5 Pro and vanilla X2, Realme X2 Pro is the first device that jumped into the European market with a storm. By considering the spec sheet and the price tag, the device reminds us of the era when OnePlus launched its first flagship killer phone.

Realme X2 Pro really arrives as a tough competition to Mi 9T Pro and a few other top-shelf and competitive-priced handsets. It is all set to bring the same stir in both Asian and European markets.

Realme has officially revealed the specs of Realme X2 Pro in India just recently and caused some stir with its aggressive pricing. The device will be available in Lunar White and Neptune Blue colors and 8GB/128GB variant will be priced at INR 29,999 ($420) and 12GB/256GB variant will be priced at INR 33,999 ($470) model. Currently, there is limited stock available and it will hold the flash sales on the basis of invites.

    More Details

There is an improvement seen in the availability of this device in the future as seen in recent development. The company’s official website has also teased the base variant of Realme X2 Pro, i.e. 6GB/64GB. But it was originally not coming to India. It is interesting to see how it will impact pricing in India. This new variant may definitely come with a lower price range.

Considering the existing prices of X2 Pro on the flash sale, it is also very cheaper in India as compared to Europe and the company is looking forward to improving the bottom line. The device successfully moves past its hype and gorilla marketing infused flash sale.

The company could keep the starting point of INR 29,999 for a 6GB/64GB variant to do this in a low-friction way. This variant doesn’t use the latest UFS 3.0 storage. Instead, it will use UFS 2.1, which another good thing. No matter what, Realme X2 Pro is an impressive buy for a buyer. With that said, Realme X2 Pro is one of the best flagship killer smartphones in the Asian market.

When it comes to other specifications, it packs the bright Super AMOLED 6.5-inch panel with the Under-Display fingerprint scanner and 90Hz refresh rate. It will also feature a quad rear camera setup, the most powerful Snapdragon 855+chipset, and 64MP main shooter.

    supervooc charging

The company is yet to publish a changelog in detail. But, we understand that the update of LG G8 ThinQ will bring new Android 10 features, including a new navigation system, smart reply and dark mode.

Keep in mind that LG G8 ThinQ updates are not available on all carriers and in all regions at the same time. It may take some time before you get an update, even though it is launched officially by LG.

LG has also released an Android security patch for November, according to the reports by GSMArena. Currently, when the same update will roll out in other regions is still unknown. Along with it, the company is also expected to push the stable version soon for LG V5o0 ThinQ as the company announced the beta program of Android 10 for the device in South Korea.

    LG G8 ThinQ

For your information, Google had launched the latest version of Android 10 mobile OS this year in the month of September. The update became available as a result of certain devices from the likes of Nokia, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and other brands. When it comes to key features, the latest Android OS comes with a system-wide dark theme in order to help save battery life to a great extent.

Google is also going to improve its smart reply feature with Android 10. It will now work in all messaging apps. It will now include actions like opening link on YouTube and address on Google Maps.

Though Android 9 Pie was the first to bring gesture navigation on board, Android 10 will present its improved version. A sneak peek has also been revealed by Google showing a new gesture to open left swipe menu. But most users didn’t like the interface.

It also has a Live Caption option to caption podcasts, videos, and audio messages automatically in any app. Google is also focusing on improving privacy and security with Android 10. Now users can allow apps to collect location information only when they are using the same.

The launch date of LG G8 ThinQ was February 24, 2019, with Android 9 Pie, which was the latest Android version. LG started rolling out Android 10 OS update in early December 2019 to LG G8 ThinQ but in South Korea only. It will soon start pushing Android 10 out in the global market. The new Android 10 skin on this device looks pretty similar to One UI 2.0 by Samsung.

  • Vivo iQOO Neo with Snapdragon 855+ passes through TENAA

Vivo iQOO Neo with Snapdragon 855+ passes through TENAA

Vivo’s iQOO range is supposed to come with a major upgrade in its chipset lineup yet again. Currently, it is going to hold the flagship processor, Snapdragon 855+.

Vivo iQOO Neo with Snapdragon 855+ passes through TENAA

iQOO seems to be developing a specific pattern, mostly in its Vivo Neo range. Initially, Vivo launched iQOO Neo with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and it later launched a flagship model that comes with SD 855 SoC.

The latest version arrived with a lot of smaller upgrades and more powerful SoC, which optimizes faster charging and comes with a bigger selfie camera.

Along with those, the devices are quite much similar to both the hardware and design departments. It seems like the device will come with yet another improved version once again. It will come with the highest SD 855+ SoC.

    About the model

Currently, the device has got the model number V1936AL, which is quite similar to V1936A model number with iQOO Neo 855. It is believed that the device would be titled iQOO Neo 855+. It was listed with 159.53×75.23×8.13mm dimension and weighing 198.5g on TENAA listing.

The overall specifications of the device are pretty similar to other models. They have 128GB storage, 8/12 Gigs of RAM, FHD+ Super AMOLED 6.38-inch screen as well as in-display fingerprint sensor. They won’t have 6GB/64GB models like last ones.

The phone will still have a triple camera setup at the back, with an 8MP wide-angle sensor, 12MP main snapper, and 2MP depth sensor.  It will still be powered by a 4500mAh battery and 33W fast charging support. The version is quite similar to its more powerful successor. Actually, there are only minor changes than its previous version.

But there are still odds that this device is a kind of limited edition or special edition. No matter what, the device will be launched soon as it is listed in the TENAA database.

If Vivo offers the new gaming iQOO device with chipset upgrade even with a competitive price tag and it plays right in its pricing department, it could be a killer thing in the smartphone market. Again, it might have a special or limited edition of some kind with the V1936AL model. A release is quite imminent as TENAA has the listing.

    Samsung Galaxy Prime Core Review

Samsung Galaxy Prime Core comes as one of the basic smartphones to connect to Google services like Google Drive, Maps, and Google Now. There is a simple gray design in the phone with the boring screen which tries hard to read in broad daylight and the camera is outdated.

But the price makes it one of the lowest and Verizon’s signal works faster. It costs only $168 when you buy it without a contract and full retail. It costs $30 with a 2-year contract and $7 monthly on the Verizon Edge plan for 24 months.

Samsung Galaxy Prime Core Review – A Decent Entry-Level Smartphone

At the same time, MetroPCS offers Core Prime for $130 with no contract. For a starter device, it is absolutely fine. But you still need to shop around for a better price.

    Samsung Galaxy Prime Core Design

The device features a 4.5-inch display to keep it more compact than larger 6-inch displays but the meager 800x480p resolution is outdated. The screen looks grayish and more reflective indoors than nearby screens and videos, web pages, and images look pixilated and a bit dim.

Onscreen images wash out and texts are even harder to read under the rays when going outdoors. The device also heats up, especially in warm summer days.

     Samsung Galaxy Prime Core Interface

The camera app features settings like Panorama, Auto, Beauty Face, Continuous Shot, Best Photo, and Sports modes. It also has a Settings menu to open items like ISO, Photo Resolution, white balance, geotagging, and grid-lines, etc.

By default, the rear camera is set to 3.9MP out of the box, instead of 5MP. For 3.9MP, it changes the 3:5 aspect ratio and 4:3 for max resolution. The camera is decent enough to capture bright outdoor photos which contrast with low-res images in low light.

Flash generates bright light to make everything quite clearer and brighter. Like all the pictures, selfies are the trade-off. There is nothing you can do with the 2MP front camera unless taking grainy self-portraits, even with Beauty mode on. Outdoor selfies look brighter but indoor snaps are grayish.

The 720p video recording is good but not impressive. Audio pickup is weak for others but you will get your voice clearer. You need to look for well-lit, outdoor scenes which don’t grasp a lot of noise.

    Hardware

    • 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage
    • 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor
    • Expandable up to 128GB
    • 2000mAh removable battery

With lower-powered CPU, you can’t do anything much with Galaxy Core Prime. And 1.2GHz Snapdragon chipset is very common in this range. But navigating the phone is quite responsive while scrolling through menus and screens. Music and videos stream quite quickly thanks to Verizon’s fast network.

The slower processor and poor resolution makes this device worst for gaming. It falls far behind LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 in processing graphics. But it does play some popular titles and casual games fine.

    Battery

According to Samsung, the 2000mAh battery in Prime Core can last around 10 hours of Talktime on 3G, around 9 hours of video playback and 11 hours of Wi-Fi time. But in the real world, it could last shorter or longer, according to your usage.

Live maps and video streaming uses data and resources quite faster than sending messages. All in all, the device should last at least 8 hours without getting drained.

    Connectivity

    • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
    • 4G enabled

The Speedtest.net measured significantly high speed which hovered around whopping 30Mbps to 40Mbps for downloads while 20Mbps uplink. There were some dips but coverage variations are common. In real world tests, pages load really fast with LTE.

But Verizon’s network was not too strong to download large files quickly. Music and videos were streamed without any hiccups.

Wi-Fi supports 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz networks. So, downloads and uploads may not be as fast as possible with high-end devices. Movies and other large files will take even longer for downloading, as per the size.

Is it worth to buy this entry-level Android device?

The Galaxy Prime Core is just a simple smartphone that can be found anywhere. If you are looking for a low-budget smartphone ($130 on MetroPCS and $168 with Verizon plan), Samsung Galaxy Prime Core is definitely for you.

For MetroPCS users, it is one of the best choices in this range. But if you are a Verizon user, it is better to spend a few dollars more to choose a better phone.

When it comes to competition, LG Lucid 3 comes at $200 but shares most of the specs in Core Prime with a 4.7-inch screen, 2440mAh battery and 960x540p resolution, which is quite better. It also features 1080p full HD video and in-built wireless charging.

The only downside here is 0.3MP camera, vs. 2MP camera in Core Prime. For around $32 more, you can also look for Microsoft Lumia 735 with Verizon. But if you download plenty of apps and use Google services, don’t go with Windows Phone. If you want to keep things simple, the Galaxy Prime Core is a good buy.

    Pros

    • Compact Smartphone with compact price tag
    • 5MP camera capable enough to take decent sunlit pictures
    • Enough expandable storage

    Cons

    • Poor screen resolution dampens its image
    • Low light pictures have a lot of noise
    • Pixilated selfies with front camera

    Verdict

One of the budget phones by Verizon and MetroPCS, Samsung Galaxy Prime Core makes an entry to entry-level market but it still can’t beat the rivals.
